about

artist statement

As an artist, I am committed to exploring the intricacies of oil paint to create fine detailed works that are rich in color and texture. Recently, I have been challenging myself to incorporate a wider range of colors into my compositions. I have worked with a variety of materials and subject matters. However, as of right now, my main medium of choice would be oil paint. I prefer to paint with oil because it's thicker and takes longer to dry. This is helpful with my process, as I am a detailed oriented painter. I think it is easier to fix mistakes when the paint is still wet and movable, rather than when it dries. I also like to create very blended and smooth work, which is easier while the paint is still wet. I would say I work more representationally rather than more abstracted, as it works better with my process, and it is something I enjoy more. This is connected as I prefer to use reference photos or straight observation to help with my imagery.

In addition to oil paint, I enjoy using colored pencils to enhance my pieces to create a blended, soft aesthetic. This combination of mediums allows me to experiment with different techniques and achieve a unique visual language that is distinctly my own.

Some of my other work involves using found objects, bought objects, and other random materials to experiment with. This is especially prevalent when creating 3-dimensional bodies of work, as just strictly sticking with clay for sculptures does not fully interest me.

While my body of work does not adhere to a specific theme or narrative, I am guided by my passion for technique and the exploration of materials. Each piece is an opportunity for me to delve deeper into my craft and bring to life the intricate details that captivate me as an artist. My subject matter is the part of my process I feel I struggle with the most. I am not exactly sure what my voice is or what I want to say with my work yet, but it is something that I've been considering more lately. Recently, I've been wanting to try to create work that is more personal, and more playful. I have been trying to draw things out of my childhood to use as inspiration and subject matter for this.

Ultimately, my goal is to create art that resonates with viewers on a visual level, inviting them to step into a world where color, texture, and technique converge to create an immersive experience.
